Maggie Johnson was one stylish Birmingham bride. From her gorgeous fur and jewelry to pearls wrapped around her bouquet to red tartan bowties for the groomsmen, Johnson’s wedding was a glamorous winter soiree.

MMJ 699825How did you choose your gown? Tell us about your gown.

My mom came down to Birmingham for a weekend and we found “the one” after only going to a few places! I knew I wanted something different, so when we spotted the platinum-colored structured dress at the White Room, we both knew it was the one. I think it was a cool combination of a traditional shape and a different color.

Tell us about your veil.

I had a magical seamstress who made my sample-size dress fit like a glove, and she also made the veil for me! It needed to be gray to match the dress and she did a great job with the length so it was still appropriate for a nighttime, winter wedding but it didn’t cover up the back of the dress.

I’ve always loved the Amsale long chiffon dresses where everyone gets to pick their own neckline and style (I’ve worn them at least a few times as a bridesmaid myself and they fit great and are comfortable). I thought the emerald green dresses looked great for the season, but didn’t scream “Christmas” TOO much!

Kyle wore a tailored tuxedo from Shaia’s with a black velvet bowtie that we both loved and a silver patterned cummerbund. The groomsmen wore their own black tuxes with a red tartan bowtie that Kyle gave them as a groomsmen gift.

I told the florist that I would love anything in “white, cream and gray that looked wintery” and let her have at it. I literally couldn’t identify one of the flowers in the bouquet besides a cream rose…I’m sorry!

MMJ 701054Tell us about any unique details:

We had funny pictures of us as kids on the tables around the reception and pictures of family members on their wedding days on the bar and cake table, which I think added a personal touch of family history. I also surprised Kyle with the guest book, which was a table of personalized notecards and wine bottles for various anniversaries of our wedding date (1st, 5th, MMJ 70063210th, etc.). People wrote notes and then put them in bags on the wine bottles, so we can read them on our anniversaries! Our goal was to throw a fun party for our friends and family, so we focused on a cool downtown venue (The Wine Loft), an awesome party band (24-7 from Nashville), and of course, the must-have glowstick glasses and tambourines. Mariee Ami made our vision of an awesome party a reality and Mo at Arden Photography captured it all!
